Padinjarubhagam Youth Movement is the spiritual and service-oriented youth wing of St. Stephen’s Orthodox Cathedral, Kudassanad. Popularly known as OCYM West, the unit represents the active faith life of young members within the parish. It stands as a living expression of commitment, unity, and continuity, deeply rooted in the spiritual traditions of the Church.
As an integral part of the parish, Padinjarubhagam OCYM plays a visible role in nurturing young minds and hearts. Through its disciplined structure and prayer-centered activities, the unit helps youth grow in faith while remaining closely connected to the life and mission of the Cathedral and the wider Church.
Historical Roots and Legacy
Even before the formal establishment of the Malankara Orthodox Christian Youth Movement, the young members of St. Stephen’s Cathedral were united under a dedicated youth organization known as the Youth League. This group functioned actively for more than eight years, cultivating spiritual discipline, unity, and responsibility among the youth of the parish.
With the formation of OCYM, the Youth League was officially affiliated and became a recognized unit of the Malankara Orthodox Church. This long-standing legacy gives Padinjarubhagam OCYM a unique sense of pride, as organized youth participation existed in the parish from the earliest days, laying a strong foundation for today’s vibrant activities.

Guided by the vision and motto of Worship, Study, and Service, Padinjarubhagam OCYM functions across spiritual, social, and cultural dimensions. The youth actively participate in liturgical services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and faith formation programs, strengthening their spiritual life and commitment to the Church.
Alongside spiritual growth, the unit places strong emphasis on social responsibility. Charity initiatives, community service, cultural programs, and leadership activities are regularly organized, enabling members to put Christian values into action while developing confidence, creativity, and teamwork.

The Chengannur Diocese was formed on March 10, 1985, in accordance with the decree issued by Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews I, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan. The diocese came into existence by bringing together parishes from the Thumpamon, Niranam, and Kollam dioceses. H.G. Thomas Mar Athanasios assumed charge as the first Metropolitan of the diocese on August 1, 1985.
Headquartered at Bethel, the diocese today comprises 51 churches, 10 chapels, 55 priests, and 8,851 families. By giving importance to spiritual organizations, missionary activities, parish coordination, and social service initiatives, the Chengannur Diocese continues to advance the spiritual and social mission of the Church.
